In September, the Calvin hockey program celebrated 50 years as a collegiate program, bringing fans, friends and alumni back to Eagles Ice Center on Calvin Homecoming Weekend.
Five months later, the program has even more to celebrate as both its ACHA Division I and Division III teams have earned bids to their respective national tournaments next week in Marlborough, Massachusetts, located just outside Boston.

ACHA D3 SCHEDULE
The Calvin ACHA Division I team has earned the No. 14 seed and will face No. 19 seed Navy on March 16 at 1:30 p.m. in a first round game of the ACHA Division I Tournament. The winner will play the following afternoon against Adrian.
The Calvin ACHA Division III team gained the No. 16 seed to the ACHA Division III Tournament and has been put in a pool consisting of Notre Dame, Grand Valley State and Purdue. Calvin will open pool play on March 16 against Notre Dame with puck drop scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. The winner of the pool will advance to the national semifinals.
"We are thrilled and honored to have both of our teams selected to play in their national tournaments," said Calvin Hockey Director and ACHA Division I head coach
Mike Petrusma. "This was always the goal, to develop two high-level teams when we decided to grow the program from one to two teams after the 2018 season. We are looking forward to competing against the best teams in the country and hopefully doing so in front of some of our Calvin alumni from the Boston area."
The Calvin ACHA Division I team has earned its third trip to the Division I Tournament in four years. Calvin has captured a national title at the Division III level in 2004 and reached the national championship final again in 2018 before splitting into two programs prior to the 2018-19 academic year.
"It's been great to see both teams grow with more opportunities made for student-athletes to compete at the collegiate hockey level," said Petrusma. "Our plan is to leave next Tuesday by bus with both teams there to support each other. It's a trip we are really looking forward to."
Petrusma's ACHA Division I team is currently 22-7-3 and coming off a trip to the GLCHL Tournament Championship game this past Saturday.
Petrusma previously served as Calvin's ACHA Division III coach. The D3 Knights are now led by third-year head coach
Jim Hartlein. The team has fashioned an overall record of 16-11-0 with all 11 defeats coming against top-seven ranked teams. The D3 Knights recently advanced to the quarterfinals of the MCHC Tournament.
"I am very excited for the 2022-23 version of the Calvin Knights men's D3 team to make its first trip to the national tournament," said Hartlein. "The boys have put a ton of work into their classroom studies off-ice strengthing and on-ice practices since the beginning of September in order to have the opportunity to be invited to the national tournament. It is an honor to represent Calvin Universoty on the national stage in our first season of having two Knight hockey teams. The team is excited to compete and represent the university to the best of its ability."
