KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The No. 15 Calvin ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team recorded a big 6-0 win over Western Michigan University on Friday night, improving its season record to 15-6-3.
Calvin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, courtesy of
Keith Schenkel. Schenkel first scored a power-play goal with 15:23 remaining and again with 1:51 remaining left in the period. Daniel Boylan of Western Michigan played the first of his 3 terrific periods in the game, stopping 14 shots in the first, giving up just the two goals.
The Calvin lead extended when
Joel Dieleman scored on an assist from Ed Riordan with 15:30 remaining in the period. Boylan of WMU recorded another 13 saves, bringing his total to 27, and preventing any further second period goals by the Knights.
Despite an incredible third period performance by Daniel Boylan, who recorded 24 saves in the third, the Knights were able to find the back of his net 3 times.
Maverick Baxtrom,
Lou Vesperini, and Quentin Stemphel all scored for Calvin. The final score would remain 6-0, shutout win for the Knights.
Garrett Walker recorded 19 saves for Calvin, earning the shutout win. Daniel Boylan also had a tremendous effort for WMU, recording 51 saves. Calvin outshot WMU 57-19.
