Calvin ACHA D3 Hockey Downs Davenport in MCHC Tournament

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin ACHA D3 hockey team picked up a 6-2 win over Davenport in the first round of the MCHC Tournament on Friday evening at Griff's Icehouse West.

The Knights improve to 16-10-0 on the year and will face Grand Valley in a second round tournament game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Holland.

Trevor Rublein got things going, scoring the first goal of his Calvin career just 1:57 into the contest. Calvin later took a 3-1 second period lead behind goals from Michael Ottsen and Myles Radersma.

The Knights then added three quick goals in the third period to put the game away with Drew Klomparens scoring and later Radersma and Ottsen scoring again.

Calvin finished the game with a 37-28 shots on goal advantage. Goaltender Cody Rhodes was strong in nets with 27 saves.

"It was a team effort," said Calvin head coach Jim Hartlein. "The boys worked hard, sharing the puck and playing for their seniors to continue their seasons. I'm proud of their effort and look forward to the challenge of playing Grand Valley tomorrow and further strengthen the team's resume' in its pursuit of a nationals bid."
