CHICAGO, IL. – The Calvin ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team got their first of two wins against Roosevelt University this weekend, winning a close game 5-4 on Friday night. The Knights improved their season record to 17-6-3.

th in the latest ACHA Division 1 national ranking.
Calvin found themselves in an early hole as Roosevelt's Griffin Lehet and Cade Swygert both scored with 11:31 and 7:13 remaining in the first period. The Roosevelt lead didn't last for long as
Jacob Siebenga scored the first Calvin goal with 3:43 remaining. Down 2-1 and searching for the tying goal at the end of the period, the Knights found their answer in
Maverick Baxtrom. Baxtrom slipped through the Roosevelt defense, was found by a
Lou Vesperini pass, and tied the game up at 2-2 with only 19 seconds remaining.
Calvin owned the second period.
Joshua Ernst and Krzyszlof Petryla both scored for Calvin, putting the Knights up 4-2. The Calvin defense held strong in the second period, allowing no Roosevelt goals. Calvin went into the final period up 4-2.
Calvin quickly increased their lead to 3 goals when
Steven Ickes scored an even strength goal, assisted by
Owen Duiker, only 22 seconds into the third period. Roosevelt didn't stay down for long and began a furious comeback starting with a Gage McNeish goal with 9:14 remaining. Chase Caravella added another goal for Roosevelt with 2:50 remaining, bringing Roosevelt within just one score. The Calvin defense tightened back up and kept Roosevelt out of their net for the remainder of the game. The final score remained 5-4 as Calvin held off the Roosevelt comeback effort.
Carlos Siso was in goal for Calvin and recorded 23 saves.
NEXT UP: After this weekend series with Roosevelt, the Knights have a series against Davenport University. The first game will be on Friday, February 17 at 7pm at Eagles Ice Center in Grand Rapids, MI.
