GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Calvin ACHA D1 men's hockey team lost 2-1 in the championship game of the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic against Grand Valley State University on Saturday night at home. The knights are now 16-5-1 overall.
The game featured a matchup of nationally-ranked teams as Calvin came in ranked 12
th and GVSU 16
th.
Calvin put up just five shots on goal in the first period, while Grand Valley had 13 shots on goal. Neither team was able to score in the first period.
Calvin got on the board early in the 2nd period when
Ethan Pool scored from
Kyle VanDusen and
Joel Fonovic. Grand Valley was able to equalize with 11:11 left in the 2nd period off a goal from Jackson Terpstra. Grand Valley outshot Calvin in the 2nd period with 14 shots on goal to Calvin's 8.
Grand Valley was able to score the go-ahead goal with 10:24 left in the game. Bryan Clahassey scored from Carson Wood and Gage Thrall. Calvin had six shots on goal in the 3rd and Grand Valley had 11. Grand Valley had a total of 38 shots on goal, twice as much as Calvin's 19.

Mike Petrusma-"Grand Valley took it to us tonight. We didn't generate enough shots. We are looking forward to having a break and getting ready for the rest of the season. We have put ourselves in a good position for the final 3rd of the season."
