HAMMOND Ind.- The Calvin men's ACHA division 1 hockey team defeated Purdue University Northwest 5-2 on Saturday night on the road. Calvin is now 10-4 on the year.
Calvin's
Joel Dieleman was the first man on the ice to score. He scored with 5:50 left in the first period off assists from Keith Shenkel and
Ethan Pool. Sam Bourdages equalized for the Purdue Northwest Lions just 42 seconds later from Michael Clough. The 1st period would end knotted up at 1 goal apiece.
The Lions Andrew Remer gave Purdue Northwest its first lead of the game off another assist from Michael Clough with 15:48 left in the 2nd period. Calvin retaliated, scoring 3 straight goals to end the 2nd period.
Lou Vesperini,
Joshua Tak, and Josh Ernst were the Knights who lit the lamp, and put Calvin up 4-2.
The Knights scored their final goal of the game with 16 seconds remaining in the 3rd period on an empty-net situation.
Steven Ickes scored, and
Krzyzstof Petryla assisted. The Knights ended their weekend on a high after losing to Purdue University Northwest the previous night.
