GRAND RAPIDS Mich.- The Calvin ACHA division 1 men's hockey team defeated the University of Alabama 8-2 on Friday night October 27th at home. The Knights are now 8-3 on the season.

The Knights were led by an impressive performance from freshmen
Joel Fonovic who scored 4 goals and an assist. Fonovic opened up the scoring with 7:55 left in the first period. He was assisted by
Ayden Adamic and
Ethan Pool. The first period ended with a 1-0 lead for the Knights.

Joel Fonovic scored first for the Knights in the 2nd period, with 13:55 left in the period. The Crimson Tide could not be held back forever, Ben Wilcoxson brought the game back within a goal off an assist from Chris Moehlenpah with 8:36 left in the period. The one goal difference was short lived as
Ethan Pool scored a minute later to give the Knights a 3-1 lead off assists from
Steven Ickes and
Joel Fonovic. Fonovic completed his hat trick with 2:04 left in the 2nd period. The Knights scored a 5th with just five seconds left in the period when Stevin Ickes lit the lamp.

Fonovic led off the scoring yet again in the 3rd period netting his 4th goal 40 seconds into the period to put the Knights up 6-1.
Steven Ickes scored his 2nd of the game 4 minutes into the third period. Josh Ernst scored Calvins 8th goal of the game with 15:30 remaining. Alabama's Nate Biron cut the Calvin lead to 6 off assists from Lou Decola and Finn Parkman with 7:08 left in the match.Â

Mike Petrusma-"We played a much better game tonight. Much better on defensive transition which gave us a better transition on offense. Now we have Oakland tomorrow."
