GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin ACHA Division 3 men's hockey team completed its sweep of Davenport University on Saturday, winning 4-1 on Davenport's home ice. The Knights improved their season record to 13-8-0.
The Calvin offense was lively from the drop of the puck with the team moving the puck around quickly and efficiently, leading to 16 shots on goal in the first period.
Drew Klomparens was able to get one through and put Calvin up 1-0 with 11:22 remaining in the first period. He was assisted by Harry Ottsen and
Nolan Bailen. Davenport could only get 4 shots on goal in the first with no goals scored.
Davenport quickly responded in the second period as Liam Simerson scored the equalizer only 2:30 minutes into the period. The game now tied 1-1, the Calvin offense continued its attack on the Davenport goal with 15 shots on goal which turned into 3 goals for the Knights.
Myles Radersma scored his first and only goal.
Drew Klomparens added two more, his second and third goals of the game, getting the hat trick with a whole period yet to be played. The score was 4-1 at the end of the second.
Both teams tightened up their defense in the third. Calvin was only able to take 8 shots on goal and Davenport only found space for 6. Neither team scored in the third and the score would remain 4-1 at the end of the game.
Ryan Worosz was in goal for Calvin and recorded 12 saves. Calvin outshot Davenport 39-13 in a tremendous display of team hockey with passes zipping all over the ice and good shots stacking up.
NEXT UP: The Knights travel to East Lansing this Friday, February 3 to play Michigan State, start time is to be determined.
