Calvin ACHA Hockey Drops Series Opener to No. 2 Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team dropped the first game of its weekend series with Adrian College on Thursday night, losing 4-1. The Calvin's season record dropped to 14-5-3.

The Adrian Bulldogs struck first when Matt DiCesare scored with 6:39 remaining in the first period, assisted by Ethan McLaughlin. Playing with a 1-0 lead, the Adrian defense held strong, only allowing 7 Calvin shots on goal. Carlos Siso was in goal for Calvin and played a crucial role in limiting Adrian's attack in the first; Siso recorded 15 saves in the first.

Adrian's Dylan Gajewski and Sam Spaedt put on a two-man show in the second as Gajewski assisted Spaedt in both goals he scored in the second. Together they put Adrian up 3-0. However, the lead would dwindle when Krzyszlof Petryla scored for Calvin with 2:13 remaining in the second, in an attempt to spark a third period comeback.

There would be no Calvin comeback in the third as the Adrian defense locked up Calvin, only allowing 3 shots in the third. Tyler Fyfe tacked on one more goal for the Bulldogs with 10:31 remaining, the final goal of the game. The final score would be 4-1.

Carlos Siso of Calvin limited the Adrian attack on the goal, recording 42 saves on 46 shots on goal. The Knights were outshot 46-16 in the game.

NEXT UP: After this weekend's series with Adrian College, the Knights start a series with Western Michigan University on Friday night, February 3, in Kalamazoo, MI.
