The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the Oakland University Grizzlies 5-1 on Saturday night.
In the first period the Knights opened the scoring just four minutes in with a goal from Josiah Carter with the assist from Maverick Baxtrom. Just four minutes later the Knights extended their lead to two goals with a goal from Kyle VanDusen with the assists from Jacob Siebenga and Ryan Jagielski. Late in the first period the Knights broke down defensively and let the Grizzlies walk right through for the goal.
After the first period the Knights were leading 2-1. The Knights outshot the Grizzlies 18-4.
In the second period the Knights dominated the entire period but could not find the back of the net. They hit the post multiple times and had endless shots but could not add to their lead.
At the end of the second period the Knights were leading 2-1. The Knights outshot the Grizzlies 25-2.
In the third period the Knights found the back of the net again twelve minutes in with a goal from Ethan Bock with the assist from VanDusen. Just a minute later Edward Riordan got on the board with the helper from Baxtrom. Finally, to seal the game the Knights added a final goal with two minutes remaining. The goal came from Siebenga unassisted.
At the end of regulation the Knights came out victorious over the Grizzlies 5-1. The Knights outshot the Grizzlies 66-13 for the game.
Knights Goaltender Aiden Harding finished the game with 12 saves and the win.
