The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to the Davenport University Panthers 5-4 on Friday night.
In the first period both teams went back and forth with good scoring chances on both ends. Fortunately, for the goaltenders on either side no goals were scored in the frame.
At the end of the first period the Knights were tied with the Panthers 0-0. The Knights outshot the Panthers 13-11.
In the second period the Knights found some momentum and got on the board just three minutes in with a goal from Chris Bebelos with the assist from Maverick Baxtrom. About ten minutes later the Knights extended their lead to two goals with a goal from Cal Erdmann.
At the end of the second period the Knights were leading the Panthers 2-0. The Knights outshot the Panthers 7-6.
In the third period the Panthers started off hot scoring four unanswered goals to start the frame. Putting the Knights down two with 12 minutes to go in regulation. The Knights got one back with about seven minutes to go in the frame. The goal came from Josh Ernst with the assist from Jacob Siebenga. Three minutes later the Panthers made it five goals for the period and once again put the Knights down two goals. Just a minute later the Knights once again got the goal back. This time from Zach Malkowski with the helper from Tanner Booth. Unfortunately, the Knights comeback came up just short.
At the end of regulation the Knights fell to the Panthers 5-4. The Knights outshot the Panthers 33-32 for the game.
Knights Goaltender Liam Austin finished the game with 27 saves.
