HOLLAND, Mich. — The Calvin ACHA Division 3 mens hockey team took a tough loss against rival Hope College Friday night, losing 6-1 in an emotional, intense game.
The Calvin Knights record fell to 6-5 on the season.
The Hope College Flying Dutchmen jumped out early in the first period. The Flying Dutchmen scored 3 goals, by Lucas Barber, Kevin Healy, and Nolan Holtrap, respectively. The Knights were plagued by penalties, with 2 of the 3 Hope power goals being scored in the first period. The Knights were held scoreless in the period for a score of 3-0 at the end of the first.
The second period saw Gabe Gunnesen score the only two goals of the period for the Flying Dutchmen, the first at the 10:26 mark and the second coming with 3:42 remaining in period. Myles Radersma scored for the Knights with 2:22 remaining in an effort to mount a comeback. Hope led 5-1 after the second period.
The third period was very physical as both teams racked up a combined 12 penalties in the period, 6 for each side. The lone goal of the period was a power play goal by Lucas Barber of Hope College, his second of the game. The final score at the end of the third was 6-1.
Liam Austin was in goal for the Knights.
