Calvin D3 Hockey Trips up Trine at the Wire to Complete Weekend Sweep

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — The Calvin ACHA Division 3 mens hockey team came out on top in a close, thrilling battle with the Trine Thunder on Saturday, winning 5-4 in the closing seconds of the game.

The first period was even with one goal for each team. Keigan Oberski of the Calvin Knights scored the first goal of the game for either team. The score was equalized by a goal from the Thunder's Viktor Pallasvesa. The score was 1-1 at the end of the period.

The second period was also tightly contested, with both the Knights and Thunder scoring 2 goals. The Knights' goals were scored by Brock Hearth, 4:52 into the period, and Myles Radersma, with just over a minute remaining in the period.  The Thunder goal scorers were Aaron Wrost and Noah Neiheisel. The score at the end of the second period was knotted at 3-3.

The third period continued the back-and-forth trend of the game, with both teams scoring halfway through the period. Brock Hearth scored his second goal of the game for the Knights, and Noah Neiheisel scored his second of the game for the Thunder. The game remained tied until Myles Radersma scored the winning goal, and his second, of the game with only 8 seconds remaining. Final score of the game was 5-4.

The Knights outshot the Thunder 32-21 and were called for one less penalty. Liam Austin was in goal for the Knights, recording 17 saves. Calvin improved to 6-2 on the season.

NEXT UP: The Calvin Knights begin a weekend series with Grand Valley State on Thursday, November 3. The will play the second half of the series on Saturday night.
