The Calvin University Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team were defeated by the Adrian College Bulldogs 3-1 on Saturday night.
In the first period both teams came out with high intensity and speed going from end to end with scoring chances coming from all directions. It wasn't until about the ten minute mark that the Bulldogs drew first blood and put the Knights into an early 1-0 hole. Two minutes later things went from bad to worse for the Knights as the Bulldogs quickly extended their lead to two goals. Four minutes later the Knights found a way through the Bulldogs defense and found the back of the net. The goal came from Brandon Turcotte with the assist from Tanner Dey.
At the end of the first period the Knights found themselves trailing 2-1. The Knights outshot the Bulldogs 12-9.
In the second period the Bulldogs came out strong and quickly put high pressure on the Knights defense. About three minutes into the frame the Bulldogs recaptured the two goal advantage over the Knights. The Knights fought back hard for the rest of the period but could not put another tally on the board.
At the end of the second period the Knights were down 3-1. The Knights were outshot 6-12.
In the third period once again both teams went out and recieved plenty of good scoring opportunites but neither team could find the back of the net in the end.
The game concluded with the Bulldogs coming out on top over the Knights 3-1.
Knights Goaltenders Cody Rhodes and Liam Austin combined for 26 saves on the night.
The Knights return to action on Friday, March 19th as they take on the Davenport University Panthers.
