The Calvin University Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team were defeated by the Adrian College Bulldogs 4-2 on Saturday night.
Going into Saturday's game the Knights looked to get their first win of the season. Sadly, the Bulldogs came to crush those hopes for the Knights.
In the first period the Knights came out strong and within three minutes found the opening tally of the contest. The goal came from Mitchell Niesar with the assists from Kaden Morton and Ethan Gill. After the Knights goal the game went end to end with good scoring chances for both teams. Even with all the good chances no more damage was done on both ends.
At the end of the first period the Knights were leading the Bulldogs 1-0. The shots were tied at 5-5.
In the second period the Knights once again started the period on the front foot. About five minutes in the Knights got on the board again with a goal from Jon Hull with the assists from Jake Oakes and Tanner Dey. The Bulldogs began to pressure the Knights after their second goal but struggled to find good scoring chances. With about three minutes to go in the frame the Bulldogs foudn the breakthrough and cut the Knights lead down to one.
At the end of the second period the Knights led the Bulldogs 2-1. The Knights outshot the Bulldogs 7-5.
In the third period the Bulldogs began to take complete control of the game. Just four minutes into the final frame the Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2. About four minutes later the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game and left the Knights stranded and stunned. The Knights did their best to fight back but could not get any momentum going in the offensive zone. The Bulldogs added an insurance goal with about four minutes to go in the frame to extended their lead to two goals.
At the end of the the third period the Bulldogs came out on top over the Knights 4-2. The Knights were outshot 4-17.
Knights Goaltender Cody Rhodes had a strong game with 23 saves.
The Knights are back in action Friday, March 5th as they take on the Dutchmen of Hope College at 7:30PM.
