The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team shutout the Eastern Michigan Eagles 5-0 on Friday night.
The Knights looked to continue on the winning trail this week and got the exact start they wanted.
In the first period the Knights came out strong and took control of the game right away. They dominated possession and offensive zone control. The Knights found their first goal of the contest around the six minute mark. The goal came from Justin Davis with the helper from Harmen Vining. Three minutes later the Knights extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Josh Ernst with the assists from Jacob Siebenga and Josiah Carter.
At the end of the first period the Knights were in control over the Eagles 2-0. The Knights outshot the Eagles 15-7.
In the second period the Knights once again controlled the game. Once again it took them till the six minute mark to find the back of the net. The Knights third goal came from Maverick Baxtrom with the helper from Luis Mendoza. The Knights extended their lead to 4-0 when they found the back of the net again with 30 seconds left to go in the frame. The goal came from Davis with the helpers from Siebenga and Ian Elkins.
At the end of the second period the Knights were leading 4-0. Knights outshot the Eagles 19-6.
In the third period the Knights added one more goal to their total and it came from Davis to complete his hattrick on the night. The assists on Davis' third goal came from Siebenga and Kyle VanDusen.
At the end of regulation the Knights came out victorious over the Eagles 5-0. The Knights outshot the Eagles 17-6 in the third.
Knights Goaltender Josh Gruene had 19 saves on the night for his shutout victory.
