ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin ACHA D3 hockey team dropped a tough 3-2 overtime decision at Trine University Saturday afternoon.
The Knights overcame a 2-0 deficit to force overtime but the host Thunder scored the game-winning goal with 17 seconds left in overtime play.
Trine led 1-0 at halftime and added a second period goal to take a 2-0 advantage heading into the final period of play.
Calvin (4-2) came back with third period goals by senior Mitchell Niesar and sophomore Zachary Seaman to tie the game 2-2.
Calvin held a 38-26 shots on goal advantage.
Freshman Garrett Walker came up with 23 saves in goal for the Knights.
Calvin is back in action next weekend with a two-game series with Grand Valley State. Calvin will be at Grand Valley next Friday for an 8 p.m. game at Georgetown Ice Rink with the Knights hosting Grand Valley State next Saturday at Eagles Ice Center on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
