The Calvin University Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team was defeated by the Trine University Thunder 5-3 on Friday night.

The Knights looked to continue on the winning trail early on in the season but unfortunately for the Knights the Thunder came to ruin their plans. 

In the first period the Knights came out very strong and quickly put the Thunder defense on the back foot. Just seven minutes into the frame the Knights found the breakthrough with a goal from Matthew Brown with assist from Ethan Gill. The Knights continued to keep the pressure up on the Thunder defense and with two minutes left to go they found the back of the net again. This time the goal came from Keegan Oberski with the helpers from Jacob Waligora and Tanner Dey. 

The first period concluded with the Knights leading the Thunder 2-0.

In the second period the Thunder began to kick it into gear and really caught the Knights off guard. Just three minutes into the frame the Thunder found the back of the net to cut the Knights lead down to one goal. Fortunately, the Knights quickly got that goal back just a minute later as Waligora found the back of the net for the Knights third goal of the contest. With about ten minutes left to go in the frame the Thunder once again broke through the Knights defense and cut the lead back down to one goal. Two minutes later the Thunder tied the game at 3-3.

The second period ended with the game tied 3-3. 

In the third period both teams came out strong looking to take the lead. It wasn't till about the eleven minute mark in which the Thunder once again found a way through the Knights defense and took the 4-3 lead. The Knights battled back hard for the rest of the period but all hopes were lost once the Thunder finished them off with an empty net goal.

The game concluded with the Thunder coming out victorious over the Knights 5-3.

Knights Goaltender Garrett Walker had a strong game with 30 saves on the night.
