The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to the Adrian College Bulldogs 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in the GLCHL Playoff Championship.
In the first period the Bulldogs came out strong putting the pressure on the Knights defense early. Two minutes into the game the Bulldogs found the back of the net to take a quick 1-0 lead. Three minutes later the Bulldogs tallied another goal to go up 2-0. Thirty seconds later the Bulldogs found the back of the net again to extend their lead to three goals. After a terrible first five minutes for the Knights, they began to settle into the game. The Knights recieved some good chances in front of goal late in the first period, but could not find the back of the net.
The first period concluded with the Bulldogs leading the Knights 3-0.
In the second period the Bulldogs once again came out strong and controlled the pace of the game with ease. About seven minutes into the period the Bulldogs put another tally on the board to extend their lead to four goals. For the rest of the period the Knights pushed the attack to try and get back into the game. Even with the Knights increased attacking pressure the Bulldogs defense held firm and kept the Knights off the board.
The second period concluded with the Bulldogs leading the Knights 4-0.
In the third period the Bulldogs once again dominated the first five minutes of the period and were rewarded with another goal to bring their lead up to five goals. The Knights fought back hard for the rest of the period and with about three minutes to go in the frame they finally found a breakthrough and got on the board. The goal came from Samuel Dexter with the assist from Ian Elkins.
The game concluded with the Bulldogs coming out victorious over the Knights 5-1 in the GLCHL Playoff Championship game.
Knights Goaltender Darin Fox had a strong game with 45 saves.
The Knights return to action Friday, March 19th as they face off against Aquinas College in the first round of the ACHA National Championships.
