The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to Davenport University Panthers 3-1 on Friday night.
In the first period the both teams came out strong and fast pushing the attack early. Throughout the first period both teams recieved strong chances in front of goal, but neither team could find the back of the net.
The first period concluded with the game tied 0-0.
In the second period both teams came out just like they did in the first with high tempo hockey going end to end with scoring chances. The Knights got some good looks at goal early in the period, but the Panthers defense held them off the scoreboard. As the period went on the Panthers were able to control the period and pin the Knights down in their own zone for later half of the frame. Finally, with two minutes to go in the period the Panthers opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead.
At the end of the second period the Panthers led the Knights 1-0.
In the third period the Panthers came out strong scoring just two minutes into the frame to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights fought back hard the rest of the period and finally found a breakthrough around the seven minute mark with a powerplay goal from Austin Huizenga with the assists from Riley Robertson and Jacob Siebenga. About two minutes later the Panthers got the goal back and regainned their two goal lead.
The game concluded with the Panthers coming out on top over the Knights 3-1.
Knights Goaltender Darin Fox had a strong game with 26 saves.
