The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the Western Michigan University Broncos 6-0 on Friday night.
In the first period the Knights came out strong and quickly found the back of the net just four and a half minutes into the frame. The Knights first goal came from Jacob Siebenga with the assists from Jared Virtanen and Will Houskamp. About fifteen seconds later the Knights extended their lead to two with a goal from Cal Erdmann with the assists from Harmen Vining and Sam Dexter. The Knights then proceeded to hold onto their two goal lead for the rest of the frame.
The first period concluded with the Knights leading the Broncos 2-0.
In the second period both teams went back and forth with good chances in front of goal, but neither team could find the back of the net. At about the five minute mark left in the period the Knights found a breakthrough. The Knights extended their lead to three with a goal from Virtanen with the helper from Siebenga. Once again the Knights defense held firm and kept the Broncos off the scoresheet.
The second period concluded with the Knights leading the Broncos 3-0.
In the third period the Knights took complete control of the game, scoring three unanswered goals in the period. The first goal of the frame came around the five minute mark when Houskamp found the back of the net with the helper from Vining. The second came two minutes later from Virtanen with the assist from Siebenga. And the third and final goal of the frame came from Ethan Bock with the assists from Garrett Pitter and Tanner Dey.
The game concluded with the Knights coming out victorious over the Broncos 6-0.
Knights Goaltender Darin Fox finished the game with a 24 save shutout.
