The Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the Grand Valley State University Lakers 5-2 on Thursday night.

In the first period the game started out quickly going end to end with both teams recieving good chances in front of goal. Five minutes into the period the Lakers found the back of the net to take an early lead. Four minutes later the Knights tied the game with a goal from Christian Gums with the assist from Jared Virtanen. 

The first period concluded with the game tied 1-1. 

In the second period once again the game went back and forth with great chances at goal but neither team could find the breakthrough early in the frame. Around the eight minute mark the Lakers took the lead again. The Knights fought back strong and with forty-eight seconds left to go they found the back of the net. The goal came from Sam Dexter with the assists from Josh Hartlein and Tanner Dey. 

The second period concluded with the game tied 2-2. 

In the third period the Knights took control of the game. The Knights pushed the attack for the entire period, the Lakers defense held off the Knights attack for most of the period. Finally with about two minutes to go in regulation the Knights found the go ahead goal which came from Jacob Siebenga with the assist from Virtanen. Less than a minute later the Knights found the back of the net again. This time the goal came from Virtanen with the assist from Josh Greune. Then with twenty-five seconds left to go the Knights sealed the game with another goal from Siebenga with helpers from Virtanen and Hartlein. 

The game concluded with the Knights coming out victorious over the Lakers 5-2.

Knights Goaltender Josh Greune had a strong game with 17 saves. 

The Knights return to action February 28th as they face off against Davenport University at 8:00PM at Eagles Ice Center.
