ATHENS, Oh. - The No. 17 Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the No. 5 Ohio University Bobcats 4-3 on Saturday night.
The Knights came into Saturday's game with momentum as they had just beaten the Bobcats the night before. The Knights looked to sweep the #5 Bobcats and move up in the standings.
In the first period the Bobcats got on the board just a minute into the frame to take an early 1-0 lead over the Knights. The Knights pushed back hard and found the back of the net on the powerplay around the halfway point of the period. The goal came from Josh Hartlein with the assist from Christian Gums and Nick Workman.
The first period concluded with the game tied 1-1.
In the second period the Bobcats once again found the back of the net in the first minute of the period. The Knights once again fought back hard and finally found the equalizer on the powerplay once again with about three minutes to go in the frame. The goal came from Hartlein with the assists from Riley Robertson and Jacob Siebenga.
The second period concluded with the game tied 2-2.
In the third period the Knights took the lead in the first minute of the frame with a powerplay goal from Jared Virtanen with the assist from Siebenga. Five minutes later the Bobcats found the back of the net to tie the game at 3-3. Three minutes later the Knights retook the lead with their fourth powerplay goal of the game. The goal came from Austin Huizenga with the assists from Virtanen and Cal Erdmann. The Bobcats pushed back hard at the Knights defense for the rest of regulation, but they could not find the back of the net.
The game concluded with the Knights coming out victorious over the Bobcats 4-3.
Knights Goaltender Darin Fox had another big game with 29 saves on the night.
The Knights return to action Friday Jan. 24th as they face off against Toledo University.
