ATHENS, Oh. – The No. 17 Calvin University Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the No. 5 Ohio University Bobcats 4-3 on Friday night.
In the first period the Bobcats got on the board first scoring about seven minutes into the period. The Knights pushed back hard in the second half of the period but could not find the back of the net.
The first period concluded with the Knights trailing the Bobcats 1-0.
In the second period the Knights quickly tied the game at 1-1 less than a minute in. The goal came on the powerplay from Jared Virtanen with the assists from Austin Huizenga and Jacob Siebenga. The Bobcats then went on to score two unanswered powerplay goals in the second half of the period.
The second period concluded with the Knights trailing the Bobcats 3-1.
In the third period the game began to heat up and so did the Knights. At about the twelve-minute mark the Knights found the back of the net with a goal from Ian Elkins with the assist from Siebenga. Four minutes later the Knights tied the game at 3-3 with a goal from Virtanen with the assist from Siebenga. With under two minutes to go in regulation the Knights went on the powerplay. The Knights took the lead with about a minute and twenty seconds to go. The goal came from Virtanen with the assist from Graham Kormash.
The game concluded with the Knights coming out victorious over the Bobcats 4-3.
Knights Goaltender Darin Fox had a big game with 30 saves on the night.
