The Calvin University Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team fell to the Grand Valley State University Lakers 4-2 on Friday night.
In the first period the Lakers got on the board first with a goal about nine minutes into the game. The Knights pushed back hard for the rest of the period but could not find the back of the net.
The first period concluded with the Lakers leading the Knights 1-0.
In the second period the Lakers added to their lead with another goal about halfway through the period. With about three minutes to go in the period the Knights got on the board with a goal from Hayden Heys with the assists from Mitchell Niesar and Jake Oakes.
The second period concluded with the Knights trailing the Lakers 2-1.
In the third period the Lakers once again added to their lead just thirty seconds into the period to bring the score to 3-1. The Knights fought hard to find the back of the net and eventually found the break through with two minutes to go in the period with a goal from Sam Boelema with the assist from Andre Kilpela. The Lakers sealed the game with an empty net goal with about thirty second left to go in the period.
The game concluded with the Lakers coming out victorious over the Knights 4-2.
Knights Goaltender Liam Austin had a strong game with 46 saves on the night.
