The Calvin University Knights D3 hockey team defeated the Davenport University Panthers 6-3 on Friday night.
The Knights looked to keep things rolling after coming off a big win at Notre Dame last week.
In the first period the Knights took the early lead with a goal from Ben Morse with the assist from Jacob Oakes just three minutes into the game. The Panthers looked dangerous in the second half of the period but the Knights defense held strong and kept them off the board.
The first period concluded with the Knights leading 1-0.
In the second period the Panthers came out strong and tied the game just two minutes in. About a minute later the Knights took back the lead with a goal from Mitchell Niesar with the assist from Luis Mendoza and Oakes. Just two minutes later the Panthers tied the game back up at 2-2. Five minutes later the Knights got another goal from Niesar with the helper coming from Nolan Bailen.
The second period concluded with the Knights leading the Panthers 3-2.
In the third period the Knights took control scoring a minute into the period. This time the goal came from Andre Kilpela with the assists coming from Kenlee Dome and Hayden Heys. Just a minute later Kilpela added another goal to the Knights lead this time coming from Jon Hull and Heys. The Panthers fought back hard and got back on the scoreboard just three minutes later. With the Knights leading the game 5-3 they looked to seal the deal. With three minutes left to go in the period the Knights got a goal from Heys with the assist coming from Morse.
The game concluded with a Knights victory over the Panthers 6-3.
Knights Goaltender Liam Austin had a big game with 33 saves on the night.
