Calvin Knights Defeat the Western Michigan Broncos 7-5

The Calvin Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the Western Michigan University Broncos 7-5 on Saturday night.

In the first period both teams came out strong looking to find the first goal of the game. Ten minutes in, it was the Broncos who scored first to take an early one goal lead. Soon after the Broncos goal the Knights answered back with a goal of their own coming from Spencer Rowlette with the assists from Garrett Medina and Riley Robertson. Towards the end of the period the Knights found the back of the net again with a goal from Samuel Dexter with helpers from Cal Erdmann and Christian Gums. The first period ended with the Knights leading the way by a score of 2-1. 

In the second period the Broncos came out strong and scored two unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead. Soon after the Broncos had taken the lead the Knights struck back with a goal from Jared Virtanen with the asissts from Austin Huizenga and Garrett Medina. Just minutes after the Knights had tied the game the Broncos found the back of the net again and reclaimed their one goal lead. Late in the period the Knights scored two unanswered goals. The first goal coming from Keegan Weckesser with the helpers from Samuel Dexter and Jared Virtanen. And the second goal came again from Keegan Weckesser with the assists from Jared Virtanen and Garrett Jennings. The second period concluded with the Knights in the lead 5-4. 

In the third period the Knights kept up the pressure and tallied another goal to their lead. The Knights goal came from Jared Virtanen with the helpers from Austin Huizenga and Spencer Rowlette. Just a minute after the Knights goal the Broncos struck back to keep the Knights lead at one goal. A few minutes after the Broncos goal the Knights found the back of the net once more with a goal from Riley Robertson with the assist from Keegan Weckesser. The game concluded with a Knights victory over the Broncos 7-5. 

Knights goaltender Darin Fox had a strong game with 24 saves on the night.
