MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Calvin picked up its second win in as many days at the ACHA Division III National Tournament, defeating Saint Vincent University 5-0 Wednesday afternoon. The Knights are now 2-0 in pool play heading into a Thursday night showdown with Lawrence Tech University to close out pool play action. The winner will move on to the national semifinals later this week.
Calvin's Gabe Sova and Tommy Postal scored a pair of first periods goals to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Josiah Lambers assisted on the Sova score while Postal's goal was assisted by
Brock Hearth. In the second period
Owen Duiker scored off a feed from Postal to give Calvin a 3-0 lead with 2:13 left in the period.
Christopher Bebelos scored in the opening minutes of the third period to make it 4-0 and Duiker scored with 2:21 left to play off another feed from Lambers to complete the scoring. Â
Calvin (19-6-3) held a commanding 38-25 shots on goal advantage.
Ryan Worosz came up with 25 saves in goal for Calvin for the shutout win.
COACHES COMMENT: "I thought we played another real quality game," said Calvin head coach Austin Huizenga. "We were able to battle through and keep our cool and keep our heads. We're excited for our matchup tomorrow against Lawrence Tech. They're a really familiar opponent and it should be a great game to watch!"
