GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.- The Calvin ACHA D3 hockey team defeated the University of Michigan-Flint 9-0 Friday night at home. The Knights are now 14-4-3 on the season and ranked 8th in the latest national polls.

The Knights scored their 1st goal of the game just under three minutes into the 1st period.
Hayden Fernhout scored unassisted to give Calvin an early lead. With about 5:30 left to play in the period
Owen Duiker put the Knights in front by two. He was assisted by Chris Bebelos and
Josiah Lambers. Calvin had 10 shots on goal in the 1st period while UM-Flint had 4.

Calvin started hammering the net in the 2nd period scoring multiple goals.
Zach Westrick, Gabe Sova, and
Myles Radersma each scored, while Chris Bebelos scored a pair. At the end of the period the Knights were up 7-0, outshooting UofM-Flint 16-3 in the period. Â

The 3rd period slowed down again for the Knights with another two goals scored.
Nathan Sova scored his 1st goal of the game from
Luke Afman.
Sergey Yakunin also got his name in the stat sheet with a goal from
Zach Westrick with 6:16 left to play in the game. The Knights had a total of 37 shots on goal while UofM-Flint had 12. In goal for Calvin was
Garrett Walker, while Flint had Max Penachio in net.Â

COACHES COMMENT: Head Coach Austin Huizenga, "I was happy with how we played tonight. We had good energy and good pace. Our first period was a little dull, but we corrected and saw improvement. Looking forward to our game Saturday."
