GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Calvin ACHA D3 Hockey defeated Western Michigan University 10-2 at home on Friday night. Calvin is now 3-0 on the season.
Calvin got off to a hot start with
Myles Radersma scoring a pair of goals to begin the scoring in the 1st period. WMU scored one of its own with 11:45 left in the 1st period when Griffin Crampton was assisted by Tyler Lorring. The lone goal wasn't enough as Calvin's
Hayden Fernhout and
Josiah Lambers both scored in the waning minutes of the 1st period to put the Knights up 4-1.
Nathan Sova put Calvin up 5-1 midway through the 2nd period off an assist from
Zach Westrick. Tyler Lorring scored a solo goal for the Broncos to make the game 5-2, just a few minutes later. Chris Bebelos scored another for the Knights to put them on top 6-2 at the end of the 2nd period.
Ian Schweigert scored twice in the 3rd period while
Drew Klomparens, and
Hayden Fernhout also scored to cap off a 10-2 Knights win. WMU had 24 total shots on goal while Calvin had 37. In net for the Knights was senior
Garrett Walker.
COACHES COMMENT: Head Coach Austin Huizenga, "I'm really proud and happy with the way we played tonight. WMU is a good team which is only getting better. Looking forward to game 2."
NEXT UP: Calvin will complete the double header against Western on Saturday Oct 19th at 8:30pm. The game will be hosted by the Stallions in Kalamazoo.
