NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Calvin ACHA D3 hockey team opened its 2023-24 campaign on Thursday night and fell to a powerful Notre Dame team 6-5 in a back-and-forth contest.
The game featured the opening game of first-year head coach Austin Huizenga's head coaching career at the helm of the ACHA D3 Calvin hockey program. It also featured a match against a Notre Dame team that was nationally-ranked throughout the 2022-23 season and reached the 2023 ACHA D3 National Tournament semifinals.
Calvin trailed 2-1 after one period of play. Senior

Josiah Harsh scored early in the second period to tie the game 2-2. Calvin fell behind 3-2 but sophomore

Tomas Postal scored late second period goals to give the Knights a 4-3 advantage after two periods of play.
Notre Dame came back to take a 5-4 lead in the third but Calvin sophomore
Myles Radersma scored with three minutes left to knot the score 5-5.
With just over a minute left, Notre Dame scored the game-winning goal to pull out the win.
The two teams are set to face each other on Friday at Eagles Ice Center at 5:30 p.m in Grand Rapids.
