Calvin Knights Fall to Western Michigan 7-4

The Calvin University Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team fell to the Western Michigan University Broncos 7-4 on Friday night.

In the first period both teams went back and forth early with strong chances in front of goal, but neither team could find the back of the net to take an early lead. Around the nine minute mark of the period the Broncos opened the scoring to take a one goal lead. Four minutes later the Broncos extended their lead to two goals. Thirty seconds after the Broncos second goal the Knights got on the board with a goal from Hayden Heys with the assists from Zach Malkowski and Andre Kilpela. Twenty seconds after the Knights brough the game within one the Broncos found the back of the net to bring their lead back to two. 

The first period concluded witht the Broncos leading the Knights 3-1. 

In the second period the Knights looked to push the attack early and cut down the Broncos lead. The Knights found the back of the net around the ten minute mark with a goal from Jon Hull with helpers from Kenlee Dome and Mitchell Niesar. About a minute later the Broncos once again got their lead back to two goals. Four minutes later the Broncos extended their lead to three goals over the Knights. Finally, with less than a minute to go, the Knights found the back of the net again. This time the goal came from Kenlee Dome

The second period concluded with the Broncos leading the Knights 5-3.

In the third period the Knights got out to an early start finding the back of the net just five minutes into the frame. The goal came from Ethan Gill with the assists from Blake Jarrett and Nathan Pohl. The Knights kept up the attack but were shut down for the rest of the period by the Broncos defense. Around the eight minute mark of the period the Broncos once again brought their lead back to two goals. A minute later they extended their lead back to three. 

The game concluded with the Broncos coming out victorious over the Knights 7-4. 

Knights Goaltender Ryan Rapata had a strong game with 29 saves.
