The Calvin University Knights D3 Hockey Team defeated the Northwood University Timberwolves 6-2 on Friday night.
In the first period the Knights put pressure on the Timberwolves early and were rewarded with a goal just a minute and a half into the game. The goal came from Zach Malkowski with the assist from Tyler Groot. About two minutes later the Timberwolves tied the game at 1-1. A minute later the Knights scored again this time the goal came from Mitchell Niesar. With about three minutes to go in the period the Knights added to their lead with a goal from Ben Morse with the assists from Niesar and Avery Anderson.
The first period concluded with the Knights leading 3-1.
In the second period both teams went back and forth recieving some good chances to score but neither team could find the back of the net. About halfway throught he period the Timberwolves cut into the Knights lead and brought them within one. About thirty seconds later the Knights got the goal back with a goal of their own from Brandon Turcotte with the helpers from Luis Mendoza and Andre Kilpela. With about six minutes to go in the period the Knights added another goal to their lead, this time coming from Tanner Huizenga with the assists coming from Jake Panzer and Sam Boelema.
The second period concluded with the Knights leading the Timberwolves 5-2.
In the third period the Knights sealed the game with a shorthanded goal about halfway through the period from Blake Jarrett with the assists from Nathan Pohl and Niesar.
The game concluded with a Knights victory over the Timberwolves 6-2.
Knights Goaltender Liam Austin had a strong game with 28 saves on the night.
