Calvin Women's Cross Country Takes 31st at NCAA III Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Calvin women's cross country team took 31st at the NCAA III Championships with a final team score of 717 points. Saturday's competition was held at Tom Sawyer State Park.

Sophomore Annie Needs (Peru, Il./St. Bede Academy) was the top finisher for Calvin in the 6K race, placing 105th in a time of 22:55 on the 6K course.

Senior Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next for the Knights, placing 154th in a time of 23:13. Sophomore Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was 211th (23:40).

Freshman Sienna Ruiter-Diaz (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) was 234th (24:00), senior Maria Kuiper (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) 252nd (24:22), senior Emma Schroer (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) 253rd (24:24) and sophomore Brynne Winiarski (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) 277th (25:39).

Calvin was making its 30th appearance at the NCAA III Championships including its 15th straight.

Johns Hopkins took the team title with an overall team score of 125 points.

COACHES COMMENT: "Annie Needs had a really solid race for us today," said Calvin head cross country coach Brian Diemer. "It wasn't our best team performance but we are glad to have the opportunity to run at another national meet. For our younger runners, this was a good learning experience."
