Calvin Women's Cross Country Opens Season at Knight Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's Cross Country team competed in the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday morning at Gainey Athletic Complex.

The meet was separated in two separate 6K races for the women.

Attacking the course first in the Collegiate race was Calvin's top eight runners. The Knights finished in eighth place overall with a score of 227. 

Leading the pack was sophomore Sadie Heeringa with a time of 22:57.8. Close behind was senior Michell Koetje (23:06.3) and junior Annie Needs (23:06.7). 

Rounding out the scoring for the Knights was senior Emma Schroer with a time of 23:57.4 and sophomore Carly Bogdajewicz with a 24:04.3. 

Moving on to the Open race, Calvin's reserve team had a strong showing finishing in third place overall with 84 points. 

Packing it up to claim an 11th and 12th place finish was Brynne Winiarski with a time of 24:33.4 and Haley Weesies with a 24:33.6. 

Crossing the finish line next for the Knights was Josian Aardema who recorded a time of 24:53.1. Close behind was Leah Bishop with a 24:58.5.

Closing out scoring for the Knights was freshman Sienna Ruiter-Dias with a 25:23.2. 

The Knights return to action next Friday as they head to East Lansing to compete in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
