Calvin Women's Volleyball Set to take on Greenville in NCAA Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin College will host the NCAA DIII Volleyball Tournament this weekend. The Knights will take on the Panthers of Greenville University Thursday at 8 p.m. 

The Teams: The Panthers are 23-10 overall on the season. The Knights bring a 28-1 overall record into the match. 

The Coaches: Tom Ackerman is in his 17th year as the head coach of the Greenville volleyball program. During Ackerman's tenure as head women's volleyball coach, the volleyball team has experienced a formidable amount of success. The accomplishments of Ackerman's teams have included seven consecutive SLIAC regular season championships, NCAA tournament bids in 2010, 2015, and 2016, seven consecutive seasons with 20 or more wins, and a record of 166-56 in the last seven seasons. Ackerman is also a five-time SLIAC "Coach of the Year" award recipient, and his teams have accrued a SLIAC record of 110-10 over the seven seasons that they were conference champions.

Dr. Amber Warners is in her 17th year as head coach of the Calvin volleyball program. A 1990 Calvin graduate, Warners was a former two-sport standout for Calvin in volleyball and softball. Warners earned her master's degree from Michigan State University in sports psychology in 1996. She also received her Ph.D. from Michigan State. In 16 years as Calvin's head coach, she has compiled a record of 501-73. Under Warners the Knights have won three national championships, in 2010, 2013 and 2016. Warners has led Calvin to 14 consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

The Players: For the Panthers, Abby Freeman averages 4.91 kills per set and has a .242 attack percentage. Junior Allyson Grabowski averages 4.93 digs per set.

For the Knights, Senior Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill. / Chicago Christian) averages 4.31 kills per set and has a .274 attack percentage. Junior Sarah DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northpointe Christian) averages 3.29 kills per set and has a .348 attack percentage. Senior Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville) has a 3.51 digs per set percentage.
