Calvin Women's Volleyball Set to Face Saint Mary's College

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's volleyball team will head to Saint Mary's (Ind.) to take on the Belles Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

The Teams: The Belles are 10-11 overall and are 1-3 in the MIAA. The Knights bring a 15-0 overall record and 4-0 MIAA record into the match. Calvin is ranked #1 in the nation. 

The Coaches: Denise Van De Walle is in her third season as head coach of the Saint Mary's volleyball program. Van De Walle came to the College with a wealth of coaching experience, which includes working with Ball State University, Bowling Green State University, USA Volleyball, and the University of Notre Dame. The 2016 season was among the best in the history of the program in terms of conference wins as the Belles matched the all-time school record for MIAA victories (11) while finishing third in the conference.Van De Walle is a graduate of Ball State University and earned both her bachelor of science and master of arts in elementary education from Ball State. A four-year letter winner for the Cardinals, she was part of a record-setting squad which still holds the program record for wins in a season (35).

Dr. Amber Warners is in her 17th year as head coach of the Calvin volleyball program. A 1990 Calvin graduate, Warners was a former two-sport standout for Calvin in volleyball and softball. Warners earned her master's degree from Michigan State University in sports psychology in 1996. She also received her Ph.D. from Michigan State. In 16 years as Calvin's head coach, she has compiled a record of 502-73. Under Warners the Knights have won three national championships, in 2010, 2013 and 2016. Warners has led Calvin to 14 consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Warners is a four-time AVCA Division III National Coach of the Year (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014). Warners is tied for second on the all-time NCAA Division III AVCA National Coach of the Year Award list. She has helped coach six perfect 16-0 seasons in the league. 

The Players: For the Belles, Nicole Lukens averages 3.88 kills per set and averages 5.04 digs per set. Audrey Shannon has a 5.17 digs per set percentage. 

For the Knights, Senior Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill. / Chicago Christian) averages 4.35 kills per set and has a .288 attack percentage. Senior Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville) has a 3.30 digs per set percentage.  Junior Sarah DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northpointe Christian) averages 3.37 kills per set and 2.46 digs per set.
