Mount Pleasant, Mich. – The Calvin women's track and field team took fifth place with a score of 44 points in the Jack Skoog Open on Friday evening.
Winning the meet was Alma College with a score of 125 points.
Calvin had a handful of top performances in the D3 events.
Senior Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash. / Inglemoor) won the mile crossing the line with a time of 5:06.98. Coming in second was freshman Hannah Gaffner recording a time of 6:02.58. Diekema's time currently ranks sixth on the NCAA III indoor performance list.
Another first-place finish recorded was from senior Margaret VanWylen (Holland, Mich. / Holland Christian) in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.95.
Winning the 800 Meter Dash was junior Sarah Ball (Lynden, Wash. / Lynden Christian) who recorded a time of 2:31.65.
Calvin claimed the top seven spots in the 3000 Meter Run. Freshman Sadie Heeringa crossed the line with a 10:33.38. Coming in second place was junior Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian)with a 10:36.36 followed by senior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Ill. / Chicago Christian) with a 11:07.08.
Calvin returns to action next Saturday as the Knights compete in the GVSU Mike Lints Invitational.
