NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Calvin women's Tennis team fell to Saint Mary's 6-3 in a conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles competition, the No. 1 team of sophomores Leah Newhof (Caledonia, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) and Madeline Brouwer (Hudsonville, Mich. / Hudsonville) defeated Monica Davy and Megan Davy 8-5. At No. 2, Lilly Chamberlin and Alyssa Gulli defeated sophomore Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) and freshman Maria Poortenga (Grand Rapids, MIch. / Grand Rapids Christian) 8-5.
Rounding out doubles, the No. 3 team of Nicole Becker and Elizabeth Preister defeated freshmen Maya Klopfenstein (Goshen, IN. / Concord High School) and Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich. / Thornapple Kellogg) 8-6.
Moving on to singles play, Newhof defeated Monica Davy 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Megan Davy defated Brouwer 6-3, 6-1.
Gulli defeated Poortenga 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. At No. 4, Chamberlin defeated Klopfenstein 6-3, 7-5.
At No. 5, Preister defeated Brown in a three-set battle of 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Closing out singles play at No. 6, Bonner defeated Lily Brandt 6-1, 6-0.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday as they host Adrian at 4 p.m. for a conference contest.
