Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Has Winning Races at MIAA Relays

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin produced a strong showing at the MIAA Relays held Friday night inside the Venema Aquatic Center.

Calvin took place in five events.

The Knights opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:49.46. Calvin's winning relay was made up of junior Hannah Chao (Farmington, Mich./North Farmington HS), sophomore Samantha Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), junior Jenna Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and senior Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS).

Sophomore Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS), Oezer, Gunderson and sophomore Anna Weber (North Royalton, Oh./North Royalton HS) took first place in the 200 butterfly relay in a time of 1:45.73.

The 3x500 relay was won by the Calvin team of junior Robyn Ellens (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian HS), sophomore Grace Anne Delcompare (Naples, Fla./Home School) and sophomore Emilie Shokoohi (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) in a time of 16:44.76.

In the 400 IM Relay, Chao, senior Abbey Wellman (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS), Sonday and Delcompare took first in a time of 4:13.85.

Calvin also won the co-ed mixed 200 medley relay. Calvin's relay of junior Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS), Sam Holstege, junior Jenna Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Noah Holstege took first in a time of 1:41.53.

COACHES COMMENT: "It was a fun meet," said Calvin head swim coach Dan Gelderloos. "We had a lot of positive energy which showed up in our races. It was good to see some people make some changes that led to improvements from last week."
