Calvin's Anna Serino Named MIAA Women's Swimmer of the Week
For the third time in her collegiate career, Calvin College junior Anna Serino has been named the MIAA Women's Swimmer of the Week.
A native of Pinckney and a graduate of Pinckney High School, Serino had a superb set of performances Friday night in a double-dual meet with Hillsdale and Grand Valley State at the Venema Aquatic Center.
In the 200 freestyle, Serino cruised to a first place time of 1:56.12 that currently ranks seventh nationally. She also placed fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:17.86 that ranks 13th nationally.
In addition she was part of Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team that placed second with a time of 1:40.20 that ranks ninth nationally.
Serino's efforts helped Calvin defeat Hillsdale 148-86 while the Knights were topped by Grand Valley State 159-82.
"Anna had a terrific opening night," said Calvin head swim coach Dan Gelderloos. "She was not far off her career-best in the 200 freestyle in her first meet of the year which shows where she is in her training. She is poised for a big season and we are exciting to move forward as a team in the upcoming weeks."
Calvin returns to action on Friday when it hosts the MIAA Relays at the Venema Aquatic Center beginning at 6 p.m.
