2019 MIAA Tournament Bracket

Calvin will be making its second straight MIAA Tournament appearance under Ottenhoff.

The Knights are now 3-1-2 over their last six games and are owners of a two-game win streak.

After a scoreless first half, Calvin (5-9-3 overall) broke through for the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute as freshman Emma Thompson (Whitehall, Mich./Whitehall HS) roofed a shot past Olivet goalkeeper Makenzie Lamb. The play began with a free kick from the right wing by junior Jessie Paulson (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) with Thompson running onto the serve in the box and belting a shot into the net.

In the 86th minute, junior Grace Visser (Coopersville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) was able to run onto a deflected ball 10 yards outside the box along the left wing. Visser lofted a curling left-footed shot that snuck over the outstretched arms of Lamb and into the net for Visser's second goal of the season.

Calvin outshot Olivet 24-6 including 12-2 in the second half.

Lamb had seven saves for Olivet while junior Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) had three saves for Calvin as she recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

COACHES COMMENT: "It is great to round out the regular season with a win," said Calvin women's soccer head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "Credit to Olivet, they came out to compete hard and make things difficult for us. I thought we matched their competitiveness and stayed persistent in pushing for the first goal. We're excited to be getting another post-season opportunity. We don't take those for granted. We're excited to get back to work in preparation for Kalamazoo on Saturday."
