GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin celebrated Senior Night with a 20-1 conference victory over Trine Wednesday evening at Zuidema Field.
The Knights finish 6-2 in league play and will be the third seed for next week's four-team MIAA Tournament.
Calvin (11-6 overall) dominated Wednesday's match with Trine from start-to-finish. Calvin scored six goals in the first four-and-a-half minutes and led 16-0 at halftime.
Prior to the game, Calvin seniors Genevieve Schneemann (Farmington, Mich./Farmington HS), Alyssa Gagnon (Minooka, Il./Minooka HS), Skylynn Gyuro (Warwick, NY/Storm King School), Ellis Chalfant (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School), Emma Tilma (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Lauryn Slachter (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) were all honored. All six seniors stepped and up and made major contributions in Wednesday's win.
Chalfant had three saves to bring her season saves total to 95 and her career saves total to 413.
Slachter had four goals and one assist. Schneemann had three goals. Gyuro had a goal and an assist while Tilma had two goals and an assist. A defender, Gagnon picked up her first goal of the season including the fourth of her career while also winning three draw controls.
Freshmen Mariah DeVos (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East HS) and Drew Jansma (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) had a goal apiece with Jansma contributing three assists as well.
Junior Sarah Hall (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite School) was all over the field, chalking up a goal, winning six draws, scooping up four ground balls and causing three turnovers.
Junior Jaimie Van De Burg (Alto, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a goal and two assists. Junior Allyson Mesman (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) had a pair of goals. Junior Elizabeth Wiley (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) created three turnovers on defense.
COACHES COMMENT: "This was a really fun night for our seniors," said Calvin women's lacrosse coach Blake Boehm. "They have been oustanding leaders throughout the season and tonight they all were able to play key roles in the win. This has been the most successful senior class in program history and it was great to see them have a night where they could celebrate their four years as a Calvin women's lacrosse player."
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to either Albion or Saint Mary's for an MIAA Tournament semifinal match at a date and time to be announced later this weekend.
