GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's Lacrosse team fell to Saint Mary's 19-10 in a conference contest on Friday evening at Zuidema Field.
The Belles struck first to take the early 1-0 lead.
It didn't take long for the Knights to answer as senior Lauryn Slachter (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) found the back of the net to tie the game up.
Saint Mary's connected on another goal a few minutes later to take back its lead.
Once again, Calvin answered as junior Jaimie Van De Burg (Lowell, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) blasted one in the net to tie it up 2-2.
The Belles then went on a hot streak recording seven straight goals to take the 9-2 lead.
Calvin finally put a stop to Saint Mary's as senior Genevieve Schneeman (Farmington, Mich. / Farmington)connected with freshman Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) as the put one in the back of the cage to make it 9-3.
The Knights struck again as Schneeman found junior Allyson Mesman (Hudsonville, Mich. / Hudsonville) as she tightened the Belles lead to within five.
Saint Mary's scored next to stretch its lead to 10-6.
A few minutes later, Schneeman carried it across the field to score on a breakaway.
With under a minute left in the half, Saint Mary's connected on one more goal to lead 11-5 as the half closed out.
The Belles came out dominant the second half as they score three straight goals to take the 14-5 lead.
Van De Burg put a stop to the Belles streak as she connected with the back of the cage.
The two teams continued to exchange goals throughout the rest of the half, but it was the Belles who came out on top with the 19-10 victory.
Leading the Knights in scoring was Schneeman with four goals and two assists. Van De Berg and Slachter recorded two goals. Mesman and Gilbert had one goal each.
Saint Mary's outshot Calvin 36 to 26.
The Knights return to action on Saturday as they travel to Illinois to take on North Central at 4 p.m.
