ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin made a move up the overall MIAA team standings on Tuesday with a third place showing at the second MIAA Jamboree of the fall season.
Calvin posted a third place team score of 339 strokes on Tuesday at the Lenawee Country Club in Adrian. The score was the lowest-ever score by a Calvin women's golf team at the course.
The Knights were led by junior Linnea McDonnough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater HS) who fired a season-best round of 80 that was good for a tie for third place individually. The score was also the best-ever scored turned in by a Calvin women's golfer at the Adrian Lenawee Country Club.
Sophomore Kaylee Hirschmann (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge HS) had a 90 while freshman Jericha Sharphorn (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) had a 97.
The third place team score bumped Calvin from fifth up to fourth in the overall MIAA team standings.
The Knights are now 12 strokes ahead of fifth place Trine and just one stroke behind third place Hope and seven strokes behind second place Olivet.
Saint Mary's continues to hold first place in the overall team standings. Saint Mary's had a first place score of 326 on Tuesday.
COACHES COMMENT: "It was a good day for us on a very diffuclt golf course," said Calvin women's golf coach Jerry Bergsma. "We had solid performances by Linnea, Emma and Meredith. We were able to move up a spot in the team standings and remain in the battle for second place."
NEXT UP: Calvin is in action on September 28 when it travels to Trine for MIAA Jamboree #3. The tournament will be held at the Zollner Golf Club on the campus of Trine.
