Calvin Women's Golf Competes in Two Player Team Challenge With Hope

BYRON CENTER, Mich. - Calvin met up with rival Hope for a match play tournament at the Railside Golf Club.

The competition featured two-player pairings with a single 18-hole stroke score for each two-player team. The opening six holes featured alternate shot play. Holes 7-12 featured best ball rules. The final six holes featured a two-player scramble format.

Junior Linnea McDonnough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater HS) and sophomore Emma Dykhouse (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian HS) had the top score for Calvin with a combined total round of 73 strokes (alternate shot/best ball/scramble). Their score tied for first with the Hope team of Jordy Rioux and Abigal Meder also producing a team score of 73.

Sophomore Kaylee Hirschman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge HS) and freshman Jerica Sharphorn (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) produced a team score of 81 that was the fourth-best team score of the day. Junior Meredith Bult (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton Academy HS) and junior Amanda Scholten (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) had a team score of 82. Junior McKenna Smith (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman HS) played with Hope's Rita Cheney and carded a score of 83.

COACHES COMMENT: "It was a fun afternoon," said Calvin women's golf coach Jerry Bergsma. "The players from both teams enjoyed the different format and we had some great holes. It was a good change of pace before we head back into conference play."

NEXT UP: Calvin returns to action Tuesday when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country Club.
