CASCADE, Mich. - The Calvin women's golf team came up with a season-best performance on Wednesday afternoon, taking fifth with a team score of 356 strokes at an MIAA Jamboree #3.
Calvin hosted the MIAA Jamboree at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Club and used home course advantage to its advantage as the Knights posted a handful of season-best performances.
Junior Katy Hamilton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) had a career-best round of 86 to lead the Knights. Hamilton tied for 13th individually.
Freshman Linnea McDonough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater HS) had a season-best round of 89.
Sophomore Jessica Zylstra (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) had a solid afternoon, recording a score of 90 while junior Nicole VanderYacht (Kentwood, Mich./South Christian HS) was right behind with a 91.
Senior Gen Best (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) had Calvin's fifth sub-100 round with a 99.
Competing individually, freshman Amanda Scholten (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) had a 94 and freshman McKenna Smith (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman HS) a 97.
With the fifth place finish on Wednesday, Calvin moved to within nine strokes of Albion for sixth place in the MIAA overall team standings.
Hope took first place as a team on Wednesday with a score of 330. Hope's Megan Klintworth was the tournament medalist with a 74.
Calvin is set to compete at the fourth and final MIAA Jamboree this coming Saturday. The MIAA Jamboree will be hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country Club at 1 p.m.
