GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's basketball team fell to Adrian College 62-55 in a conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Van Noord Arena.
The Bulldogs came out strong controlling the ball as they lead 11-2. Calvin looking to tighten the score went on an 8-0 run including two three-pointers from junior Kara Minderhoud (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Covenant Christian) and freshman Abbie Cooley (Castle Rock, Co. Castle View) to make it a two-point game. Adrian put up five more points, and freshman Stephanie Coors (Evergreen, CO. / Valor Christian) knocked down a triple to close out the quarter 18-14 with Adrian continuing to lead.
Adrian started out the second quarter with eight unanswered points to take the 26-14 lead. The Knights looking to make a comeback, battled hard to go on a 9-0 run to trail just 26-23 at halftime.
The Bulldogs knocked down two triples to start out the third quarter. Calvin put up some points including a three-pointer from freshman Baylee GalanBrowne (Evergreen, CO. / Evergreen) to tighten Adrian's lead to within four. The two teams went on exchanging points throughout the quarter. As the quarter concluded, the Bulldogs continued to hold their lead 47-40.
Both teams scored 15 fourth quarter points as Adrian walked away with the 62-55 win.
Leading Calvin was Minderhoud with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Senior Rachel Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) had 12 points and six rebounds. Coors collected 10 rebounds.
The Knights return to action on Thursday as they host Alma for a conference contest scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
