Calvin Men's Cross Country Dominates Knight Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's Cross Country team won the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Gainey Athletic Complex. 

The meet was separated in two separate 8K races for the men.

Dominating the 8k course first in the Collegiate race was Calvin's top eight runners claiming the team title with a score of 43. 

Leading the Knights was senior Tyler Johnson with a second-place finish of 25:11.2. Only a few steps behind was junior Jonathan Ellis in third-place with a time of 25:12.0.

Crossing the finish line next in sixth, was senior Addison Smith with a 25:27.6 and junior Justin Varineau in seventh with a 25:30.3. 

Rounding out scoring for the Knights was senior Caleb Ferguson with a time of 25:53.2.

Moving on to the open race, the Knights reserve team also claimed the team title with a score of 40. 

Leading the pack with a first-place finish was junior Micah Meinderstsma with a time of 26:32.5. Finishing next in sixth place was freshman Coleton Jensen with a 27:06.7. Close behind in eighth place was junior Charlie Kornoelje who recorded at 27:13.1. 

Junior Fredrick McWain crossed the line next for the Knights in 11th place with a time of 27:27.1. Closing out scoring for Calvin in 14th place William Terpstra with a 27:35.4.

The Knights return to action next Friday as they head to East Lansing to compete in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational at 11 a.m.
