GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Calvin men's track & field team took first place with a score of 343 at the Island meet on Friday evening.
Out of a four-team field, Calvin defeated second place Southwestern (Tex.) by 227 points.
Calvin claimed four out of the top five spots in the 400 Meter Dash. In second place, James Jeninga crossed the finish line in 51.33. Coming in third place was Luke Peterson with a 52.44 followed by Jacob Veenstra at fourth with 54.19. Jacob Buday rounded out the scoring with a fifth-place finish of 54.97.
Moving on to the 800 Meter Dash, Morrison Ismond took first place in a time of 2:02.99. Also finishing in the top eight was Jonathan Ellis in seventh place with a 2:07.51 followed by Jamison Koeman in eighth with a 2:08.39.
In the 1500 Meter Dash, Calvin claimed seven of the top eight spots. In first place, Ryan Vreeke recorded a time of 4:05.91. Koeman came in second with a 4:06.30. Finishing in third was Ellis with a 4:06.95 followed by Ismond with a 4:08.99. In sixth place, Jacob Pettinga ran a 4:10.07. Finishing in seventh was Noah Cummisford with a 4:12.01. Rounding out the scoring was Micah Meindertsma with a time of 4:15.18.
Calvin had three runners in the top four of the 5000 Meters. In second place was Jonathon Randall with a 16:17.95, Charlie Kornoelje in third with a 16:22.18, and Nathan Klaassen in fourth with a 16:27.65.
Alex Williams recorded a first place finish in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 16.03.
Calvin also dominated the 3000 Steeplechase as it claimed the top three spots. Caleb Furguson came out on top with a 9:26.66. Addison Smith was next recording a time of 9:47.32 followed by Tyler Johnson with a 9:56.68.
In the 4x100 relay, the team of Luke VanKoevering, Vos, Jonathan Jansma and Lee Brarents finished in second with a 46.00. Calvin's B team of Buday, Jeninga, Peterson and Nathan Van Whye finished in third with a 46.16.
In the Long Jump, Barents took second place with a mark of 21' 1.25". Visser was fifth with an 18' 7".
Barents claimed first place in the Triple Jump with a 42' 1.5".
Calvin claimed the top three finishes in the Shot Put. Bryce Reynolds finished first with a heave of 44' 6.25". Jayvin Wolfe was second with a 42' 5.5" followed by Benjamin Carter in third with a throw of 39' 7".
Moving on to the Discus, Calvin dominated as the Knights claimed the top four spots. In first was Brendan VanHouten with a heave of 162' 0". Bryce Reynolds finished second with a toss of 131' 9". Wolfe was third with a 124' 2" followed by Benjamin DeKryger in fouth with a 115' 0".
VanHouten also won the Hammer with a toss of 172' 6". Reynolds finished second with a 152' 9".
Finishing the meet with Javelin, Visser claimed a first place finish with a haul of 131' 7". Van Wyhe was second with a 130' 1" followed by Jakob Bengelink with a 129' 8".
